F.A.Q.’s
How long does a site evaluation take?
Typically, the on-site portion of the evaluation takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on the terrain and complexity of the soils.
I usually provide the finished design (also known as HHE-200 forms) within 7 business days
Do I need to dig the test pits before you arrive?
In many cases, yes. To accurately evaluate the soil profile, a backhoe is usually required to dig a test pit within the footprint of the planned disposal field. I can coordinate with your contractor to ensure the pit(s) are dug in the correct location.
What is an HHE-200 form?
The HHE-200 form is the standard Maine Subsurface Wastewater Disposal System Application and Design. As a Licensed Site Evaluator, I complete this form for you as part of the design process.
I’m buying a lot; can you tell me if it’s "buildable"?
I will evaluate the soils and landscape features to determine if there is a suitable location for a septic system and discuss what type of system might work best for your plans
How long is a septic design valid in Maine?
Under the Maine Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules, a design is generally valid for two years from the date of the evaluation. If you haven’t installed the system within that window, a quick re-evaluation may be necessary to ensure site markers haven’t changed
Do you provide the actual installation?
No, Sustainable Soils specializes strictly in site evaluation and design. This ensures an unbiased design that focuses on the best technical solution for your land. However, I am happy to work closely with your chosen septic installer
